12 DAY HWANGE, OKAVANGO DELTA, MOREMI PARKS
The Hwange National Park is well known for its large amount of animals, as well as being the biggest and oldest National Park in Zimbabwe. The park is located south of Victoria Falls and is approximately a 3 hours’ drive. One of the most recognized and renowned true ´hidden but not forgotten gems` of Africa’s safari territory named after a local chief Hwange. Hwange is the tenth largest National Park in Africa. Covering more than 14,600 square kilometres (5,863 square miles) or 1,460,000 hectares it has more than 100 animals species than any other parks in the country, and 400 different species of birds.
Day 1 - Victoria Falls to Hwange - Miombo Lodge (BBD)
Your Guide Guides will pick you up from your hotel and then embark on our journey to Hwange National park. One the way we will stopover at the Wild dog Rehabilitation Centre. The Painted Dogs also known as African Wild Dogs are unique to Africa and they are among this continent's most endangered species. The Painted Dog population in Zimbabwe is one of the last strongholds of the species and we are committed to their conservation. Our conservation methods and our work with the local communities are beginning to have a positive effect on the outlook of the painted Dog species. Afternoon will be spent on a game drive in the Park.
Day 2 - Hwange National Park - Miombo Lodge (BBD)
Today we spend our time on a Full-Day game drive starting by the time the gates open. There are several water holes in the park that your guide will travel close to in an attempt to catch the animals during their feeding time. Your guide will drive you through the park enabling you to view animals from the top of terrain. Lunch will be served at one of the picnic spots and will only come back to the Lodge in the late afternoon.
Day 3 - Hwange to Chobe - Hatab Campsite (BLD) Mobile Safari
After breakfast we pack up and start our journey from Hwange to Chobe National Park, driving to the Botswana border post we pass through the Matetsi game reserve
where we often see herds of elephants, sable antelope, buffalo and many more animal species. We arrive in Kasane in the afternoon, where we will be staying at a campsite inside the Chobe National Park.
Day 4 - Chobe National Park - Hatab Campsite (BLD) Mobile Safari
This morning we go on a game drive in an open 4x4 vehicle and also an afternoon Boat cruise inside Chobe national park, which is well known for its large variety of wildlife. The game drive and the Boat Cruise are always very successful with spotting large numbers of wildlife including hippos, Elephants, Buffalos and Lions.
Day 5 - Kasane to Gweta - Planet Baobab (BB)
After having spent some precious time in the Chobe national park we proceed to Gweta Area staying at the Planet Boabab Lodge which is situated on the edge of the
Makgadikgadi Pans. Get up close and personal with super-friendly habituated meerkats. Visit the Pans this afternoon.
Day 6 - Gweta to Maun - Maun Lodge (BB)
Leaving Planet Boabab after breakfast, we drive to Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The ‘Delta’ is a huge inland water system dotted with thousands
of islands that are a haven of a diverse array of wildlife. This is a unique environment where dry land and water collides. The Delta is produced by seasonal flooding. The Okavango River drains the summer (January–February) rainfall from the Angola highlands and the surge flows 1,200 kilometres in approximately one month. The waters then spread over the 250 km by 150 km area of the delta over the next four months (March–June). The high temperature of the delta causes rapid transpiration and evaporation, resulting in a cycle of rising and falling water level that was not fully understood until the early 20th century. The flood peaks between June and August, during Botswana’s dry winter months, when the delta swells to three times its permanent size, attracting animals from kilometres around and creating one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife. The delta is very flat, with less than 2 meters variation in height across its 15,000 km².
Day 7 - Okavango Delta Day Trip
On this day we travel to the Delta on a 4×4 vehicle to the Boat landing, and then take a speed boat deep through the winding channels including nature walks exploring the Delta. The Delta is truly spectacular and an unforgettable experience as the wild animals here are not used to people. Simply sitting and relaxing often results in rewarding bird or game viewing. We come out of the Delta Late afternoon.
Day 8 & 9 - Maun to Moremi - Mohohlo Lodge
Moremi Game Reserve, although not one of the largest parks, presents insights and views even for the most experienced of travelers. It is home to nearly 500 species of bird (from water birds to forest dwellers), and a vast array of other species of wildlife including Cape buffalo, Angolan giraffe, black rhinoceros, lion, elephant, hippopotamus, zebra, cheetah, hyena, jackal, impala, and red lechwe. Cape wild dogs inhabit this reserve[2] and have been the subject of a project run in the area since 1989; thus this species is often seen wearing collars emplaced by researchers.
Leaving Maun after breakfast we embark on a journey to Moremi arriving around Lunch time. Afternoon will be spent on Game drive around the local concession. The next day will be spent on a full day Game drive which will give us more chances of seeing a variety of different bird and animal species.
Day 10 - Moremi to Maun - Maun Lodge
Coming out of Moremi we drive Back to Maun,where we will have time to relax after the bumpy roads of Moremi.
Day 11 - Maun to Elephant Sands
We head to Elephant Sands which is a lovely lodge and Campsite close to Nata. Here you can relax at the swimming pool or at the waterhole while watching large herds
of elephants.
Dinner: Own Account at the Restaurant.
Day 12 - Victoria Falls
We leave Elephant Sands and drive through Kasane, crossing the border into Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls and the surrounding areas offer a great variety of things to see and do. You will have plenty of free time to explore the town, meet the locals, visit the African markets with its wide variety of very affordable arts and crafts made from wood, stone and beads, or to relax by the pool at the campsite under the heat of the day. The Victoria Falls region is nicknamed the adventure capital of Africa for a reason. It is well known for the large variety of fantastic activities (optional excursions) such as the best one day white water rafting in the world, the 111 meters bungi, jump off the bridge, which is the second highest bridge bungi jump in the world, elephant back and horse safaris, flights over the Falls, canoe safaris, fishing safaris, sunset cruise and many more.
