VICTORIA FALLS TO OKAVANGO DELTA

Day 1 - Chobe National Park Botswana

We leave early morning from Victoria Falls, driving to the Botswana border post through the Matetsi game reserve where we often see herds of elephants, sable antelope, buffalo and many more animal species. We arrive mid- morning in Kasane where we will be staying at a campsite on the shores of the Chobe River that is close to the gate of Chobe National Park. Here we often see hippos and large herds of animals. You will have the opportunity to change money or just relax at the swimming pool. This afternoon we do a game drive in an open 4x4 vehicle and a Boat cruise inside Chobe national park, which is well known for its large variety of wildlife. The game drive and the Boat Cruise are always very successful with spotting large numbers of wildlife.

Day 2 - Maun Botswana

Leaving Chobe, we drive to Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The ‘Delta’ is a huge inland water system dotted with thousands of islands that are a haven of a diverse array of wildlife. This is a unique environment where dry land and water collides. The Okavango is produced by seasonal flooding. The Okavango River drains the summer (January–February) rainfall from the Angola highlands and the surge flows 1,200 kilometers in approximately one month. The waters then spread over the 250 km by 150 km area of the delta over the next four months (March–June). The high temperature of the delta causes rapid transpiration and evaporation, resulting in a cycle of rising and falling water level that was not fully understood until the early 20th century. The flood peaks between June and August, during Botswana’s dry winter months, when the delta swells to three times its permanent size, attracting animals from kilometers around and creating one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife. The delta is very flat, with less than 2 meters variation in height across its 15,000 km²

Day 3-4 - Okavango Delta

On this day we will pack small overnight bags and prepare for our 2-day expedition into the Okavango Delta. We travel to the Delta on a large 4×4 vehicle. We meet our local guides and set up our bush camp on one of the Islands for the next 2 nights. We go on nature walks and explore the Delta by mokoro traditional (Dugout) canoe. The Delta is truly spectacular and an unforgettable experience as the wild animals here are not used to people. Simply sitting and relaxing often results in rewarding bird or game viewing.

Day 5 - Elephant Sands

Coming out of the Delta, We head to Elephant Sands which is a lovely lodge and Campsite close to Nata. Here you can relax at the swimming pool or at the waterhole while watching animals such as large herds of elephants and other animals including lion coming to drink water.

Day 6 - Victoria Falls

We leave Elephant Sands and drive through Kasane, crossing the border into Zimbabwe/ Zambia. Victoria Falls and the surrounding areas offer a great variety of things to see and do. You will have plenty of free time to explore the town, meet the locals, visit the African markets with its wide variety of very affordable arts and crafts made from wood, stone and beads, or to relax by the pool at the campsite under the heat of the day. The Victoria Falls region is nicknamed the adventure capital of Africa for a reason. It is well known for the large variety of fantastic activities (optional excursions) such as the best one day white water rafting in the world, the 111 meters bungi, jump off the bridge, which is the second highest bridge bungi jump in the world, elephant back and horse safaris, flights over the Falls, canoe safaris, day trips to Hwange national park, fishing safaris, sunset cruise and many more.
